Do you feel trapped in a body that isn’t yours?
As joyful and rewarding as being a mother is, you’re worried to death that you’ll never get your pre-baby body back?
You see all your friends who’ve had children making it seem easy. Within weeks they’re back to looking their best, while you’re maxxed out, facing an uphill battle, and petrified you’ll have the excess skin and the pregnancy weight forever more.
I hear you.
Now, the first thing you should know about me is, I’ve never had a baby.
That’s obvious if you look at me – I’m a guy! Hi by the way, my name’s Beau.
But the reason I’m talking about pregnancy and your post-baby body is because that’s my expertise. I’ve specialised in post-pregnancy training for the last 5 years.
But there’s a specific reason I wanted to write this article for you today.
Here at my company, TBT Fitness , something we are seeing time and time again with our online clients is mothers of all ages who are desperate to see the pre-pregnancy figures back.
Having a baby can be a real joy for some women from start to finish, but this is not the case for everyone.
Take my partner, Jackie.
She had a fantastic first pregnancy, everything went to plan and her body coped very well.
That all changed though when baby number two came along.
Jackie was obviously a little older now and hadn’t really been hitting the gym as much as she did the first time round and boy did her body make her pay for it.
Here’s what happened:
As you may know already, the hormones that are released when you’re pregnant can soften your bones. This is necessary in preparing for birth, but some women, like Jackie, experience this very early on inthe pregnancy. She constantly felt like she was unsteady from the pelvis down.
This didn’t just automatically improve though after our daughter was born, and in fact she developed a form of Soriatic Arthritis, this was then made worse by the constant carrying, feeding, lack of sleep and general exhaustion that you might be feeling too?
That lack of sleep can be a real kicker to getting your best pre-pregnancy body back.
Did you know your body is only fully recovering when you’re sleeping, so if you’re lacking some time between the sheets, and not getting your 40 winks, it isn’t just your mental health and focus that can suffer … it can be a car crash for your body.
Don’t despair though.
This IS fixable, and I want to take you through exactly what you need to do …
2 years on…
It’s taken 2 years for Jackie to feel she’s ready to get back into the gym, and about 3 months ago she started.
The main areas she wanted to focus on were her tummy, thighs and hips, to help her shift the baby weight she had naturally picked up going through the process and make her feel more positive about how she looked. (Gaining weight is a natural occurrence with pregnancy, and completely normal, so you should never beat yourself up over this, but you want it gone at some point, right?)
Our main aim was NOT to do a lot of cardiovascular exercise however. Instead we decided to focus on her strength, knowing that life would be much easier for her if she had a strong back, and a solid core.
By focusing mainly on a weight training program we lost over 28lbs, dropped 3 dress sizes and became incredibly strong and body confident. This has completely changed the way she views her body, and exercise.
I know what you might be thinking – “Isn’t lifting weights dangerous?”
I completely understand where you’re coming from, but let me share this with you:
Using weights is not only the most efficient way of burning body fat but it also contributes effectively to strengthening your bones and joints. Jackie found that within 8 weeks of weight training, she was pain-free for the first time since becoming pregnant.
